Gendo Taiko (also known as Brown Taiko) was founded in the fall of 2003 by Brown University students, Raiki Machida and Joshua Goldner. Starting only with a hand-made chudaiko and okedo made by Raiki, the group has since greatly expanded in both taiko drums and membership.

Their name and style is inspired by Raiki's teachers, Handa Takao and Nambu Satoko of the Japanese taiko group, Gensou. They continue to use their own hand-built drums (chudaiko, okedo, shime and even a very large odaiko) and perform extensively throughout the East Coast. Their repetoire includes originals as well as traditional taiko pieces such as "Yatai-bayashi" and "Miyake".

Though consisting largely of students from Brown University and the Rhode Island School of Design, membership and practice is open to anyone who is interested.

For anyone wishing to see them perform, or would like to request a performance, contact them at, or join their Facebook group. For further information about practices, workshops, drum-building, etc. contact them or check out their website-->
