Happy New Year from Taiko Skin

omikuji new year japan mishima taisha fortune

Tied up Omikuji in Mishima, Shizuoka, Japan.

Omikuji are little fortunes you can get in shrines. People usually get them at the start of the new year, and it tells them how lucky or fortunate they'll be for the year. To help boost luck (or reduce bad luck), people tie the fortunes onto trees or strings in the shrines after they're read.

Did I buy one? Nope. I'd much rather spend the 200 yen on all the delicious looking food in the food stalls that line up around shrines during events like these.
